Petals In My Pocket

With pigtails, and a frame so frail
I had a dream of what my future would hold
Where a daisy says "he loves me"
As a soldier kneels to propose

And together we'd go walking down the aisle
While our loved ones stare and smile
I'll keep some petals in my pocket to remind me

Sooner than later
I'll wake up to the special day
that's what the petals in my pocket seem to say

Like a fairy tale, life obeyed the plan
I'm settled with the man I love
Oh the way he says he loves me
Words seem to come from above

Now my soldier's saying soon he will return
With just a kiss and a rose to ease my concern
I put the petals in my pocket and the hours behind me

I learn to savor
His written words that come my way
Expecting our reunion, face to face

Now all my dreams they seem shattered in one day
Tears replace the words I cannot say

It cuts like a razor
Duty took his life away
I got his metal in my locket
To console me as I'm kneeling to pray

I'm thanking our Savior
Who blessed us with a little son
Like the petals in my pocket
he reminds me of a lover who's gone

I learn to savor
memories of a time foregone
The petals in my pocket remind me
The petals in my pocket remind me
The petals in my pocket remind me
I've got the petals and his metals to remind me
My lover is gone
